Tourist Entry (PIP-5)
Most Western passport holders enter Colombia visa-free for up to 90 days per entry, with a 180-day annual cap. One extension of 90 more days is available at Migracion Colombia.
cancilleria.gov.co before applying. Always work with a licensed Colombian immigration attorney.
Best for: Visitors staying under 6 months total in a calendar year.
Required documents
- Valid passport (6+ months remaining)
- Return or onward ticket (often requested)
- Proof of accommodation (sometimes requested)
Extension
The PIP-5 can be extended once for an additional 90 days. The fee in 2026 sits in the 130.000 to 145.000 COP range, set by annual Migracion resolution. In Medellin, you can extend at the Migracion office at Calle 19 #80A-40 in Belen.
You cannot exceed 180 days total in a calendar year on PIP-5 + extension. After that, you must leave or apply for a visa.

Common mistakes
- Believing 'visa runs' reset the 180-day annual cap (they don't, it's calendar-based)
- Trying to extend past 180 days when you should be applying for a V or M visa instead
